Yo it is the end of the Year 2011

So.

Hello everyone. How do you feel? I feel better. This year has been the most active in a while. Along with Holly I ran 5, 5k runs. I worked out at both home and work.

I am glad to have the family to do things with. Thanks to everyone who decided to make a better life for themselves and were determined to make the time with thier families better. By working out we have gained strength and a longer life. We have felt better about ourselves.

Long days and nights walking all over Disney Land and DisneyWorld certanily helped a lot.

But I have to say that the last picture showing on the blog looks like I have two chins and I need to work on that this next year. But then again that photo was before the trip to the gas station in Bear Lake where we filled up the cooler with raspberry ice cream.

I challenge everyone to do at least the same amount of exercise and more you did this last year.

I am looking forwarding to running alongside you once again.

BIGGER AND BETTER IN 2012!!! The theme for next year.

James

Rasberry Days 5k 2011 Laketown UT

Doggone cold in the morning, but we lit it up a while later. Nice running in Laketown.

Sunday, July 31, 2011

I am on week three of the ragnar training. it isn't much different from week 1 and 2 except you need to do a saturday run as well. 15 min doesn't seem like a long time, but you tend to push hard when you are only running that long. this next week i am going to rebel from the ragnar training and run 20 min a day. good luck to everyone who is running in the raspberry days 5k. it will be a tough one.

still running ...

I can say that running every-other-day and P90 have helped me with my weight loss goal.
I can feel that my clothes are loose around my waist and stomache area. Will need to step on the scale soon.
I have been reading about weight loss and learned that a small snack, such as, a small serving of almonds between breakfast and lunch will help your metabolism burn stored up energy (fat deposits)in your system. I have started to eat a small snacks between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner and it appears to be working.
I ran a 5k last Saturday. I finished at 36:50. Not bad but not great. I'm starting to think I'm built for long distances and not speed. LOL.
I'm looking forward to running in Ragnar with Kyle D.
Hope to shave some time off my next 5k. This year, I have met my goal of running three 5ks.
Would like to drop down to 230 lbs by the end of September. Fingers crossed.
-Eddie B.

Update July

I have been running for 15 minutes every other day according to the Ragnar training schedule.
I have been tempted to take off running for 40 minutes or more, but I have been faithful to the Ragnar training schedule.
I have also been workingout with the Power 90 (P90) dvd.
Basically it's cardio, 100 ab workouts, and strength training. The P90 workouts kick my butt.
This July 22nd, Saturday, I am running a 5k.
Hope to keep my time around 30 minutes.
Well, no matter where you are in the pursuit to good health (and weight loss), keep at it.
Hope to see you all in August for the Rasberry Day's 5k. Eddie B.

Anyone have this experience?

lost 10 lbs

Well, I lost a total of 10 lbs since we started the blog.
I fell off the wagon and began drinking soda and making poor food choices, but I kept working out.
The running and stationary bike helped me not to gain weight. It was almost a wash.
So, if I would have made better food choices, I would have lost more weight by now.
I stepping it up and will begin running in earnest and utilizing P90X for muscle strength.
I challenge everyone to lose 5 lbs in 4 weeks from now!
I'll see you lily-livers at Rasberry Days at Bear Lake. Argh!

4 out of 10 complete

I ran my 4th 5k on Saturday. It was one of the toughest courses I have done. The first half was all uphill and the second half was all downhill; needless to say I am sore. My time was 28:49 which was a lot better than I thought I would do. I am going to continue to run 5k's but I am now going to train for a 10k. Only 6 more 5k races to go to reach my New Years goal. Every body keep up the good work.

Tyler
I am starting to get back on track monday may 16th at 5:30 AM. time to start training for 4th of july race.

GET BACK ON TRACK / STAY ON TRACK

Hello all.

I noticed the Blog had its last post on April 17, 2011.

We need to not forget to keep going. Dont lose momentum.

We don't want to gain all the weight back we have lost.

We don't want to lose all the progress we have made.

Keep going

Catching up

It has been a while since I have had chance to post. Since my last entry I have ran 3 5k races. My best time was yesterday at the Salt Lake City marathon 5k at 28:10. I am down to 165 pounds and I am keeping up with my exercising. My goal was to be at 155 by the time we go to Cancun but that is only 17 days away. I do not feel like I can lose 10 pounds in a healthy way that quick so my new goal is between 160-162. For those who might be interested I am going to run a 5k in Smithfield (Cache County) on May 14th, this race is in conjunction with Smithfield Health Days. Everybody keep up the good work and do not lose focus this healthy commitment will bless our lives and keep us active for our kids.

Down 3 pounds from the beginning of this week.

Now that the weather is better there is no excuse. The heat of the sun makes me want to get out and do an strict regiment of running, sprinting, up/downs with a few push-ups and sit ups in between.

My other blog...

Hey guys!

I am proud of all of you for the 5K. We wish we could have come; March is a busy, busy month down here in Provo.

I don't know how many of you are following this, but I am working on another resolution for 2011 and so far, I have kept it very well. I am recording two songs each month selected at random from my iPod. You can find my blog entries on its progress here:

http://marshallvsthemachine.blogspot.com/

The songs are found here:

http://www.reverbnation.com/marshallvsthemachine

I would like to hear more from all of you about it! The songs are free to download and every third song is a recording of one of my original compositions.

As for my wellness efforts, I am running whenever possible, eating less, and drinking a lot less sugar. I think I have lost some weight, but maybe more importantly, I am not gaining any in spite of all the school stress!

shirt size?

Hey, Heather and I are going to make tie-dye shirts for the shedthepounds team.
What are your t-shirt sizes (include the kids that are going to be running)?
I hope to have them ready sometime in April or May.
I was going to call us Team Pickle Juice but I don't know if you like this name or if you guys have another suggestion.
For now, I'm just making tie-dye t-shirts with no team names on them.

FYI: Kyle ran another 5K (he said it was more than a 5K) this saturday. Way to go man!

March Madness

This week I weighed myself I was still at 171 Pounds. I have been running and working out at least 3 times a week. Last week I signed up for the 5k in West Valley; I am really looking forward to this run. My goal is to be under 170 by the beginning of next week. One of the hardest things that I have been doing is not ordering french fries and substituting to something not fried. My goal for the end of the month is 165. Lets all keep up the good work.

Update March Eddie B.

I have dropped from 258 lbs to 252 lbs, since we started this blog.
I'm following the Power 90 DVD. Cardio, 100 crunches, and then resistence/weight workout.
My arms are more defined and my love-handles are shrinking.
I can feel that I'm close to dropping a pants size.
I have cut back on my soda intake. It's almost down to nothing. I have been making smarter food choices, including eating more veggies and fruits.
Aaron has been doing Tae Bo and reminds me to "eat good food."
I haven't been running as much as I should, in order to prepare for the 5k in West Valley. Kyle, you're my running hero.
Across the street, there's a track that I'm going to hit. I'm going to train on it and complete my own 5k in 35 minutes - that's my goal.
I'm really excited that all of us are excersizing and making healthy choices. We're all winners, amigos.

RUNNING: My Friend

My friend, where have you been. I have been tired and lethargic since the last we met. I think it was August 2010. Today we met at Liberty Park in SLC. You greeted me as if we had seen each just this last weekend. As I started to run I was excited to begin our relationship anew.

Running, it felt good. I was in high spirits. My legs stretched and flexed in elation to be in the cool dry weather with you once more. I realized I have left you on your own too long. I know how much more energy I have running next to you. Then the pain set in. Running: You did not go easy on me. I know that it was not that you were being vengeful, but you let me know that I had been away too long. My breath started to get shorter and quicker. I could feel my lungs trying to expand as far as possible, as far as they could if not for my rib cage, they most surely would have expanded past my body.

The world slowed down for me to run next to you. Running: My friend, your expectations for me did not diminish. When we last saw each other I was fast and quick and could breath more deeply. You remembered my achievements and did not want me to perform below my best. At the end of the first lap, I was sure that I would fall. But, as I started my second lap around the park I knew I should have just collapsed. However, it is not in me to stop and you counted on that information to make me put forth all my energy to finish my goal of two laps. As the old ladies walked faster than I ran; each step I took helped me get closer to the finish. As the dog owners had their dogs to help pull them, I got closer and closer to the end one foot at a time. As I ran with you, Running: I felt better and remembered the feeling at the end of the run that is nothing but spectacular like that of a certain job completed as intended.

I thank you for the help and realization that I cannot do without you in my life. For a better healthier life full of energy and bursts of speed. Thank you for showing me how important you are. RUNNING: My friend.

I ran 3.2 miles today and feel great. I began with a 1/4 lap and then stopped to do 15 each leg ups on a park bench that had a hieghth of 18 inches. After my legs started to burn I ran the remaining 3/4 of a lap. I took a rest with 10 push-ups and 10 "Ab Wheel" crunching. Then I completed the second lap without stopping.

A great day to run. Hopefully the story above with inspire every one else with memories of working out. Remember it is not only for us that we do these things, but for our kids and families. So that they can have us around longer.

Good luck

James

America wins ...

Americans Beat 33 Countries to Win Obesity Prize
October 6, 2010
This post first appeared on Food Politics.

OECD (the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), a group of 33 countries committed to democracy and the market economy, has just released a major report on obesity.

Its main conclusion? The United States population has the highest percentage of overweight and obesity in the democratic, market-economy world.

The reports conclusion?

Individual interventions have a relatively limited impact; therefore, comprehensive strategies involving multiple interventions to address a range of determinants are required to reach a critical mass one that can have a meaningful impact on the obesity epidemic by generating fundamental changes in social norms. The development of comprehensive prevention strategies against obesity needs to focus on how social norms are defined and how they change; on the influence of education and information on obesity but also on the potential for government regulation to affect behaviours; and on the role of individual choice and values. A sensible prevention strategy against obesity would combine population and individual (high-risk) approaches.

Buried in this paragraph are some important concepts: societies need to change social norms as well as individual behavior, and governments need to intervene to make the social environment more conducive to healthier practices.

Nancy Hellmich of USA Today attempted a translation of some of the recommendations for individuals:

* Individual lifestyle counseling by family doctors and dietitians may be the most effective to increase the life expectancy and quality of life for people who are obese or at risk of becoming so.
* Individual counseling should be supplemented with health-promotion campaigns, compulsory food labeling and cooperation between industry and government in the regulation of food advertising to kids.

The report breaks down data by country. Here are ours.

I have been taking Aaron and Ben to the indoor track, and they enjoy running, too.
Next week, I will start weight training in my garage and at the gym. I need to develop more strength for karate class.
Ken Po Karate is also another avenue for me to workout. I also have the POWER 90 DVDs and the DVDs are pretty sweet to workout with.
I just started ice-skating and, man, that is a workout.
I haven't weighed myself, but my clothes are looser.
I'll post my weight and measurements, i.e, biceps, chest, thighs, next week.

Fattison's Plan

Abby hates that nickname I've given myself; I've written a whole jingle around it. I can sing it for you sometime.

I've been sitting around 220 lbs. since the honeymoon. My earlier plan of diet drinks and walking everywhere didn't help bring that down. My goal is to be 180-190. My new plan is going well so far: minimum intake of sugared drinks, working out, and, most importantly, smaller portions. I found it was a lot easier than I expected to cut my meals in half.

Update

I lost 3 1/2 lbs by just changing my eating habits - I stopped stuffing my face.

Eddie
Hello

i am starting the new year at a record high of 227 lbs. i am not sure what my BMI is, but i know i should be around 165 or so. My plan is to continue an exersize program i started on mnday. i also want to run 10 5k's this year and 1 10k. this is the year that i have time to make a chance for better health, because health is what keeps us here longer together.

Ladies......heres my Mercedes.

As Eddie slapped his stomach this weekend reciting Tracey Morgan I couldn't help but laugh.. I am sure he did it only in attempt to get the laughs.....

But it also made me think of my stomach. Being taller I don't look heavy and never really have. But we see ourselves differently than other people see us. With that I see a great opportunity to help out family while helping myself.

This morning Jan 3rd my weight was 250. According to the BMI index I should be 210 for my weight. My goal is to attain that weight and maintain that weight consistency over the next year and years. Prior to Holly and I getting married we went on a diet.

The diet helped me see the benefits of eating smartly. By cutting down on my intake and eating smaller portions I lost 20 pounds.

So today......eating smartly are the words of the day. Hello apples!!!!

Eddie's plan

I weighed myself at two different intervals - 255 lbs and 263 lbs.
I'm going with 263 lbs.
According to the BMI index, I'm obese.
I should be 170 lbs. I would look like a crackhead.
My goal is to lose 15 lbs by March 1st.
I'm aiming for about 2 lbs a week.
My plan is to decrease my calorie intake and workout 5 days a week.
I am going to give up soda in 5 days.
Motivation: for my family.
What's your plan, folks?

Welcome

We have created a gmail account for email and Blogger abilities.

You can access the blog from the gmail account.

We will get people to honestly post their starting weight and over the next year we will post weekly updates on gains and losses.

We will also  post information for 5k run/walks throughout the year as a family.

The winner next year will be awarded an undetermined prize that may or may not consist of a night out, stay at the Anniversary Inn, maybe even cash money.

Rules or albeit conditions will need to be set.  No one wants to have their progress made fun of or someone to be made to feel bad that they are or are not doing as well as someone else.  A system that will be fair to those that maybe do not have that much weight to shed.  A body fat percentage loss or something along those lines.

This is a family endeavor and we should conduct ourselves as such.  Our encouragement and helpfulness towards others will help us all succeed.

Please post your information to the blog that has been hidden and will only allow us that know the password and username to access it.

If you find that someone else does not have the information please send it to them so that as many people as possible can be involved.

If you look at the Blog and find that you can make it more appealling please do so.

James and Eddie and everyone else.

The begginning

Today we have decided to give help and support to one another in our concentrated effort to live a healthier lifestyle that we can embrace and share with our kids.

We will be having a contest to track our weight loss over the next year.  Those who are interested and would like to join, make your intentions know here.

James, Holly, Eddie are in.  Who else is in?
